BNHS extends softball dynasty

Bayambang National High School-Infanta Softball Team bagged the championship after defeating Unit II-A (Binmaley) in a 5-inning championship game and extended its reign to eighteen years in the 2019 Division Athletic Meet softball tournament at the Lingayen Beachfront, Lingayen, Pangasinan on October 28-30, 2019.

Four teams participated in the tournament namely, Unit I-A (Anda), Unit I-B (Infanta), Unit II-A (Binmaley), and Unit III-A (Malasiqui). Single round robin was the format of the tournament in the elimination round. The top two teams will battle for the championship. BNHS Softball Team dominated all the teams in the elimination round. They remained undefeated after the elimination round with the following scores: 12-2 against Unit I-A (Anda), and 10-1 against Unit III-A (Malasiqui). Meanwhile, Unit II-A (Binmaley) was the second. Thus, the top two teams faced each other on the championship match.

In the first inning of the championship match, BNHS Softball Team immediately scored 4 runs while the opponent scored zero. After the third inning, the opponent made 2 runs while the BNHS Softball Team still had 4 runs. At the top of the fifth inning, they scored 5 runs making their score 9. Thus, applying the Mercy Rule in the softball tournament, the chief umpire immediately declared that the game was over and BNHS Softball Team was the champion.

The BNHS Softball Team will represent the Schools Division Office I Pangasinan in the 2020 Region I Athletic Association (RIAA) Meet which will be held on February, 2020 at Lingayen, Pangasinan.
